If you file after the due date, don't include any interest or penalties on Form 1040-X they will be adjusted accordingly. If it will not let you e-file, then you are going to have to print, sign and mail the return that shows that you can be claimed as a dependent. If you can, then try to e-file the return. You have to go to MY INFO and correct the way you answered the question about whether you can be claimed as someone else's dependent. ![]() You were supposed to just go back into your original tax return and fix your mistake in My Info BEFORE you tried to e-file it again. You only use the "amend" process for a tax return that has been filed, accepted and processed by the IRS-when you need to correct or add information to the return they already processed. You do not amend your return for that problem.
